Anthony Weiner goes fuckin' nuts in the House, says GOP owned by insurance companies

Oh man, here’s a video of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) just going fuckin’ nuts in the House chamber.  He starts dancing around, yelling about how he’s never met a Republican who wasn’t owned by the insurance companies — which, of course, is correct, but is largely true of the Democrats also.  EVEN SO!  This clip is why C-SPAN was created.  Watch at least until minute 3. Weiner enjoyed a brief spat of celebrity among single-payer advocates when he came out in strong support of that position.  His performance on Morning Joe stands as a playbook for how to talk about single-payer specifically, and the government’s role in public life generally.  The Morning Joe folks look like they’ve been shown the holy grail, they’re so awestruck.

I’ve always suspected that Weiner’s health care stance was as much posturing as anything else.  Those fears were modestly confirmed in January when the health care bill looked weakest, and Weiner said this to The Hill:

Congress should walk away from the entire healthcare reform campaign, Weiner contended. “It’s not the end of the world. Look, we can come back to healthcare,” he said. “It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to step back and say, look, we’re going to pivot to do a jobs thing. We’re going to try to include some healthcare pieces in it.”

Now health care has some life in it again, and Weiner is fuckin’ dancin’ an’ shit, like he never lost the faith.  So, maybe there’s a little duplicity there — just sayin’.  But you know what?  Who gives a shit.  Better that he dances around and call the GOP a subsidiary of the insurance industry than not do that.

He and Grayson are showing the Democrats how to spit a little fire, which both moves the limits of debate slightly to the left and may serve to inspire other members of congress to show some backbone.  Unlikely, but hey, small steps.  And it’s fun to watch.
